A Year in Review
A Message from Nancy Brower, 2003 Volunteer President
Today, 60 years after its foundation, United Way of Rutland County still tries to accomplish the same goals that it had in 1943. United Way is about local people using local resources to help resolve problems locally. United Way and its partner agencies are all about helping people. Through the efforts of over 400 volunteers, United Way was once again able to reach our annual campaign goal. This accomplishment allows 30 non profit health and human service agencies to perform the tasks necessary to make the lives of residents in our community better.
We owe a tremendous amount of thanks to our local media for publicizing events that help United Way maintain a high presence in the Rutland region. The Rutland Herald and WSYB radio were there with us in the beginning and we thank them for remaining such strong supporters today. Over the years, others have joined in support of Untied Way. Adelphia Media Services, Channel 15 and Video Unlimited help promote United Way services on television, while Sam's Good News, Rutland Business Journal, Tree Frog Studio and the Rutland Tribune support us through the print media.
As President of United Way in 2003, my biggest gratification was working with other volunteers to ensure that Rutland County becomes a better place for each of us. Dedicated volunteers are what make United Way an organization unlike others. From the board of directors to the allocations and campaign volunteers, your efforts are essential and very much appreciated. I know that these sentiments are shared by the 2004 United Way President, Terri Ballou.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of you that contribute to United Way. While good intentions are always important, it takes funds to operate agencies that serve our community and residents. For over 60 years, residents in Rutland County have seen the need to continue the incredible work of United Way and its member agencies. Providing a weekly contribution through payroll or an annual gift, donors continue to select United Way as an organization that will make a difference in our community. Thanks to you, our generous supporters, United Way funded agencies were able to respond to over 31,000 requests for service in Rutland County last year. It is difficult to imagine a community unable to help when neighbors need our support. It has been a real pleasure for me to serve as President of United Way through our 60th year. I would like to thank you for all of your tremendous financial and volunteer support.
