2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember and universally recognizable telephone number that makes a critical connection between individuals and families in need and the appropriate community based organizations and government agencies.
Vermont 2-1-1 is a non-profit health and human services information and referral line (I&R) currently available in only a few jurisdictions. On July 21, 2000, the Federal Communications Commission approved a petition filed by United Way of America and The Alliance of Information and Referral Systems and others requesting national designation of 211 for health and human services information and referral.
Access to emergency police and fire services through the 9-1-1 telephone number is a universal and indispensable service in Vermont. Telephone directory assistance (available by dialing 4-1-1) is another service we depend upon. With 2-1-1 the new national number dedicated for community information and referral, we can now ensure that all Vermont residents have easy access to the community information and resources they need to maintain and improve their health and well being.
Vermont 211 is a program of United Ways of Vermont and is available for calls 24 hours, 7 days a week.
